Palmer Marble

Scarce grouping of three advertising cdv’s for Palmer Marbles Published by Annesley & Ferris, 504 & 506 Broadway,
Albany, NY.  These were by the famous American sculptor Erastus Dow Palmer whose works include “The White Captive” which is housed in the Metropolitan Museum.  His bronze statue of Chancellor Robert R. Livingston is in Statutory Hall in the Capitol in D.C.   The marble of the nude facing forward is titled on the back, “Indian Girl.”  The side profile of the nude is “Resignation”, and the final one is “Sappho.”   Sappho is in excellent condition except for the rounded mount with deep rich tones and contrast. Resignation has a spot on the marble as seen with some other light wear and a pinprick hole in the top of the rounded mount.  It also has deep rich tones and contrast.  Indian Girl has a small lift in the image at the bottom as seen.  There is also a small wrinkle/crease line on the bottom left corner below the statue.  “Resignation” and “Sappho” have deep rich tones while “Indian Girl” is a little lighter.  These were entered into the Act of Congress in the year 1860 by Erastus Palmer.  Resignation was photographed by Duchochois, NY while the other two were identified to Duchochois & Klauser, NY
